Interview with Wing Commander M.M. Kaye, who trained as a pilot at Hendon and flew F.E.2bs with 18 Squadron Royal Flying Corps before being shot down and taken prisoner.
Wg Cdr Kaye’s interest in aviation began as a child at Hendon air displays. He joined the Royal Flying Corps at 18. He trained at Reading, Hendon and Hounslow Heath and was then posted to 18 Squadron in France. He was forced down behind German lines and taken prisoner. He joined the RAF Reserves in the 1930s and served in France in 1939-1940, followed by staff roles throughout the war.
