Recording of an interview with Wing Commander Rex Stocken, 9 February 1973
Interview with Wing Commander Rex Stocken, who tried to film a 1920 Paris horse race from the air but ran out of fuel at 300 feet over the course.
Wg Cdr Stocken comments on his flying career and explains how Fox Films asked him to take aerial footage of the Grand Prix de Paris horse race, at Longchamp in July 1920. Charles Nungesser lent him a Sopwith 1½ Strutter. He ran out of fuel at 300 feet over the race course, force-landed, was surrounded by a crowd of irate spectators and was rescued by police and French cavalry.
