Recorded account of the first flight from the United Kingdom to India. Group Captain Robert ‘Jock’ Halley gives the background to the flight before describing the journey and problems encountered.
Gp Capt Halley explains how he served in 16 Squadron RNAS (later 216 Squadron RAF) flying Handley Page O/100 aircraft in raids on Germany. He was then posted to RAF Bircham Newton, from where he was to have flown the Handley Page V/1500 in raids on Berlin. He describes the V/1500, remembers how he joined a crew detailed to fly a V/1500 (J1936) to India and describes the flight.
