Brian Lamb gives an account of his initial training as an RAF National Serviceman in 1950, describing his arrival at No.1 Reception Unit, RAF Padgate, bedding and uniform issue, the quality of food and the length of service required, RAF station cinemas, the occurrence of theft, how boots were polished and on trade selection. He describes his departure for RAF Pershore for further training.
