Black Cat lucky charm of Flight Lieutenant John Elwyn Charles
A black cat crossing your path is a good luck superstition. This hand stitched black cat was carried on operations in 1943–1944 by navigator John Charles of No.192 (Special Duties) Squadron.
Charles trained as an observer in South Africa in 1942, and completed a tour of operations with No. 192 Squadron in late 1943 until April 1944. Flying Vickers Wellingtons Charles and his crew completed 34 operations over Europe performing their vital radar countermeasures role in support of the Bomber Command Main Force.
