London Aeroplane Club medal, 1927-28
Medal awarded by the London Aeroplane Club.
The London Aeroplane Club was based at Stag Lane Aerodrome in Edgware. It was founded in 1925, when the Government system of subsidising flying clubs was first introduced and in 1933 had 475 members. Its aircraft included three Gipsy and four Cirrus D.H. Moths. They were housed in three hangers. In 1931 The Motor Sport periodical reported that the club 'is one of the busiest and keenest centres of private flying in the country. Certainly for anyone living in the London area who is anxious to fly or to learn to fly, one would have difficulty in recommending a more satisfactory, cheerful or convenient place than the London Aeroplane Club, Stag Lane.'
