Farewell to Brussels party, 22 June 1945

This printed menu was created by the Second Tactical Air Force (2TAF) for a party which celebrated the time that they spent in Belgium from the liberation days in 1944 to this moment in 1945 as well as the friendship between them and their Belgian colleagues.

The Second Tactical Air Force was active for two years during the Second World War, from June 1943 to June 1945 and was based in Northern Europe. Tactical air forces were designed to accommodate formations of multiple fighter groups and typically consisted of RAF personnel, British Commonwealth airmen and individuals who had escaped German occupied Europe. Units from both Fighter and Bomber Command were both placed in the Second Tactical Air Force with the intention that they would work in tandem with each other to support the forces on the ground. Post Second World War, the Second Tactical Air Force was revived for another stint from September 1951 until 1 January 1959. The liberation of Belgium during the Second World War started on 2 September 1944 and was completed on 4 February 1945, this occurring after four years of German rule.
