Program of the reception in Brussels of the British and Belgian RAF heroes of the Battle of Britain, 13-19 September 1946.
Itinerary of events for the reception in Brussels of British and Belgian RAF pilots who flew in the Battle of Britain, 13-19 September 1946.
The itinerary for this tour illustrates the strong collaboration and ties between the British and Belgians during the Second World War as well as the Battle of Britain specifically. 30 Belgian pilots are now recognised as having participated in the Battle of Britain. Some Belgian pilots were able to make it to the United Kingdom by August 1940 following the German invasion of and victory in France. Belgium provided the most pilots for the Battle of Britain from a country that was neither part of the Commonwealth or based in Eastern Europe. During the engagement, the shooting down of 21 German planes were attributed to Belgian pilots.
