Staybrite Buttons
The shiny buttons on military uniforms are a familiar symbol of the disciplined nature of service life. Former service personnel remember hours spent polishing boots and brass buttons.
In the 1960s the RAF introduced coated or anodised buttons named Staybrite, which did not require the endless polishing of brass. Many a recruit was thankful for this labour-saving improvement.
