RAF 68ft High Speed Launch 2705 in Japan, 1946
The RAF operated High Speed Launches (HSLs) to service their flying boats. This picture was taken in Japan, most likely Kure, in 1946.
Aboard the HSL are Marshal of the Royal Air Force Arthur William Tedder, 1st Baron Tedder, and Group Captain Cecil Bouchier. Bouchier was the Air Officer Commanding the air component of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force for Japan from 1946 to 1948. The British used Sunderland flying boats operating to carry mail and supplies between Japan and Singapore.
