Canadair Sabre F4 XB812
The Sabre had been introduced as a result of the Korean War of 1950-53, which had pushed further advancement in the design of combat jet aircraft.
In response to the performance of the Soviet-built MiG-15, the RAF's outclassed Meteor and Vampire fighters were replaced by the Sabre, a US design produced under license in Canada, while the British aircraft industry developed their own designs. In total 430 of the high-performance, swept-wing Sabre fighters were supplied to the RAF. They equipped a total of 12 RAF squadrons from 1953 to 1956, all but two of which were based in West Germany with 2nd Tactical Air Force defending NATO against Warsaw Pact aggression. This particular aircraft served with No 112 (F) Squadron at RAF Brüggen and 93 Squadron at Jever in West Germany.
