George Dealtry was a bomb-aimer in Wellingtons with 40 Squadron. He recalls the raid on Bucharest during which he was shot down, and his experiences as a prisoner of war.
George Dealtry remembers how the Wellington bomber for which he was bomb-aimer was shot down by a night fighter during a raid on marshalling yards in Bucharest. He names his crew, including the navigator, Gordon Cormie, and remembers baling out, an encounter with a pack of dogs, rescue by Romanian civilians, being taken prisoner by Romanian soldiers and his interrogation. He remembers Romania’s exit from the war and his repatriation.
