Sopwith 7F1 Snipe

This aircraft is a composite, incorporating parts from many different sources, painted in the markings of MRAF Sir Dermot Boyle who flew the type with No. 1 Squadron in Iraq.

The Sopwith Snipe was designed during the First World War as a replacement for the Sopwith Camel. Even though it wasn’t the best available, large numbers were ordered, serving on the Western Front. Although most orders were cancelled at the Armistice, it remained in service with squadrons based in Europe, India, Iraq, Egypt and Turkey.
