Interview with Group Captain John Bell, who flew as navigator in Hercules aircraft, including the Falkland Islands and Ethiopia. He also worked on trials projects and in various leadership roles.
John Bell recalls early life, training as navigator and his first tour in Hastings aircraft with 24 Squadron. He converted to the Hercules, flew with 36 Squadron, was a navigation instructor and worked on trials for navigation systems and laser-guided bombs. He commanded 30 Squadron, including flights to the Falkland Islands and famine relief in Ethiopia. He was station commander at RAF Lyneham and defence attaché to Ecuador and India.
