Interview with Chris Mead, who flew as a navigator in Beverley and Hercules transport aircraft. He remembers the introduction of Hercules to RAF service and compares it to the Beverley.
Chris Mead explains how he joined the RAF as an apprentice fitter before training as a navigator in Beverley aircraft. He describes the navigation equipment and methods then used and remembers operations with 84 Squadron at RAF Khormaksar. He recalls converting to Hercules in the US, compares the Beverley to the Hercules, RAF and USAF attitudes to navigators and explains the difference made to RAF transport operations by the Hercules.
