Recorded interview with Flight Lieutenant Ronald Ray, 31 July 2013
Ron Ray flew as a navigator in Beaufighter aircraft of 252 Squadron, which was engaged in day, night and bad weather anti-shipping operations in the eastern Mediterranean and Aegean Sea.
Ron Ray remembers joining the RAF, navigator training in the UK and Canada and conversion to Coastal Command Beaufighters. He describes a Beaufighter flight from the UK to Cairo and anti-shipping operations in the eastern Mediterranean and Aegean. He remembers an incident in which his aeroplane sustained damage, the use of radar for night and poor weather attacks, a squadron move to Greece, the end of the war and demobilisation.
