Richard Tanner worked for Miles Aircraft and Flight Refuelling in technical and engineering roles, including the development of air-to-air refuelling equipment and Falklands War modifications to Vulcan and Hercules aircraft.
Richard Tanner trained as a draughtsman and worked for Miles Aircraft from 1942 to 1947. After a short period with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) he moved to Flight Refuelling. He describes work and social life at Tarrant Rushton airfield, remembers Alan Cobham and Michael Cobham and gives detail on his work with air-to-air refuelling systems, including modifications to Vulcan and Hercules aircraft during the 1982 Falklands War.
