Recorded interview with John Oliver "Jo" Lancaster, who served as a pilot in Wellington and Lancaster aircraft and was the first to use a Martin-Baker ejection seat in an emergency.
John ‘Jo’ Lancaster was an apprentice with Armstrong Whitworth and flew with the RAF Volunteer Reserve during the 1930s. He returned to flying at the start of the Second World War and flew two tours with Bomber Command, in Wellington bombers of 40 Squadron and Lancasters of 150 and 12 Squadrons. He then became a test pilot, and was the first to use a Martin-Baker ejection seat in an emergency.
