Recorded interview with Alan Page, who served as an RAF pilot in Lightning aircraft from 1981 to 1988. He describes and explains various aspects of Lightning operations during this period.
Alan Page describes his RAF pilot training in Jet Provost and Hawk aircraft, followed by conversion to the Lightning and a posting to 11 Squadron at RAF Binbrook. He describes the Lightning’s handling characteristics, the use of radar, interception techniques, the Lightning’s armament and Quick Reaction Alert (QRA). He comments on the possibility of Lightnings deploying to Ascension Island during the Falklands War and compares the Lightning to other fighters.
