Tony Craig served as an RAF engineer officer on Javelin and Lightning aircraft and as a pilot in Lightnings. He comments on various aspects of Lightning operations, including QRA scrambles.
Tony Craig joined the RAF as an engineer officer, working on Javelins of 25 Squadron in the UK and Germany. He then trained as a Lightning pilot and flew with 23 Squadron. He remembers the hazards of flying a Lightning, his role as a display pilot, Quick Reaction Alert (QRA), cockpit workload and encounters with Soviet aircraft. He also outlines his experience of the Mosquito while working later for BAe.
