A guide for the layout of WAAF kit (for kit inspection)

Air Diagrams were posters produced for use in the training of air and ground crews. Service life for women in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) included laying out their kit on their bed for inspection. This Air Diagram was produced by the Air Ministry in 1944. Air Diagram Number: AD1388

Airwomen lived in tightly-packed quarters with little space of their own, so keeping kit tidy was vital. Frequent inspections meant that a standard layout made it easier for both the recruit and the inspecting sergeant to check that all the correct equipment was there. Senior officers considered that this would instil self-discipline in the recruits, and teach them to take pride in their uniform.
