Recorded interview with Wing Commander Martin Elis Bee, 13 November 2014
Martin Bee served as a pilot in Hawker Hunter, Lightning and U-2 aircraft. He comments on various aspects of Lightning operations, and his roles as a flight and squadron commander.
Martin Bee remembers training as an RAF Lightning pilot. He recalls flying Hawker Hunters with 74 Squadron, and how the squadron converted to the Lightning. He remembers publicity around the Lightning, aerobatic displays and the development of tactics. He comments on aspects of an exchange tour flying U-2 aircraft, followed by Staff College at Bracknell. He was then a flight commander with 111 Squadron and commanded 56 Squadron in Cyprus.
