Peter Vangucci served as a pilot in Hunter and Lightning aircraft in the UK and Germany, developed Lightning tactics and was a launch control officer for Thor ballistic nuclear missiles.

Peter Vangucci became a flying instructor after his own training, before flying Hawker Hunters with 3 and 14 Squadrons in Germany. He served with 130 Squadron operating Thor missiles and flew Lightnings with 74 Squadron. He was Lightning Tactics and Trials officer at the Central Trials and Tactics Organisation and commanded 19 Squadron, operating Lightnings in Germany. He comments on various aspects of Lightning operations in the UK and Germany.
