Recorded interview with Wing Commander John Walmsley, 9 June 2014

John Walmsley served as a pilot in Lightning and Phantom aircraft, including an exchange tour in Phantoms with the US Air Force and command of the RAF’s Phantom conversion unit.

John Walmsley remembers training as a Lightning pilot and describes Lightning operations with 5 Squadron from RAF Binbrook before converting to the Phantom. He remembers flying the Phantom with 54 and 56 Squadrons, an exchange tour flying Phantoms with the US Air Force and his flight commander tour with 43 Squadron. He remembers flying from the Falkland Islands after the 1982 war and his command of the Phantom conversion unit.
