Recorded interview with Chief Technician Neil Logan Cairns, 16 April 2015
Neil Cairns served as an engine fitter on Blue Steel missiles and Canberra, Shackleton, Nimrod and Hawk aircraft in the UK and Germany. He later became an instructor at Halton.
Neil Cairns joined the RAF as an engine fitter and worked with Blue Steel missiles at the Missile Fuelling and Check-Out Flight at RAF Wittering. He comments on the dangers of Blue Steel’s fuel and remembers his posting to 213 Squadron at RAF Bruggen, working on Canberra B.(I)6 aircraft. He went on to work with Shackletons and Nimrods at St Mawgan, Hawks at Valley and as an instructor at Halton.
