Terry Beaney completed RAF national service as an administration clerk. He describes his experience of working in 1 Squadron’s orderly room, including deployment to Cyprus for the 1956 Suez Crisis.

Terry Beaney recalls his national service call-up, his basic training at RAF Hednesford and clerical training at RAF Hereford. He was then posted to the orderly room of 1 Squadron at RAF Tangmere. He describes his work, his experience of discipline and the squadron’s deployment to Cyprus for the Suez Crisis. He also gives detail on post-service life and the difficulty he has experienced explaining his service to younger generations.
