Jack Watchous served as a wireless operator-air gunner in Avro Anson aircraft during the early part of the Second World War, including patrols over the evacuation beaches during Operation Dynamo.
Jack Watchous served as a wireless operator/air gunner in Anson aircraft of 48 and 500 Squadrons, including patrols over the evacuation beaches during Operation Dynamo. He remembers how Messerschmitt 109s attacked his formation on 1 June 1940, with the loss of his air gunner, William Smith. He recalls air attacks on RAF Detling, causing the loss of his brother, Leslie Watchous, and the experimental use of 20mm cannon in Ansons.
