Recorded interview with Aircraftsman 1st Class David Alfred Girdler, 22 July 2015
David Girdler completed RAF national service with the Airfield Construction Branch. He describes training at RAF Hednesford and at RAF Church Lawford, and his work in the Suez Canal Zone.
David Girdler remembers his Second World War evacuation, national service call-up, basic training at RAF Hednesford and Airfield Construction Branch trade training at RAF Church Lawford. He was then posted to the Suez Canal Zone, working in various areas including a water filtration plant at RAF Kabrit, power houses and dredging. He describes relations with Egyptian people, gives his views on the value of national service and outlines post-service life.
