Recorded interview with Wing Commander Martin Mayer, 17 August 2015
Martin Mayer describes his experience as a pilot in Whirlwind, Puma, Wessex and Chinook helicopters, as an instructor and as a test pilot in various aircraft types at Boscombe Down.
Martin Mayer trained as a helicopter pilot, and served with 225 Squadron in Borneo, flying Whirlwind helicopters. He went on to train as an instructor and as a test pilot at Boscombe Down. He remembers his work as project pilot for the Puma helicopter, time in Germany flying the Wessex and conversion to the Chinook. He recalls the Falklands War, the formation of 7 Squadron with Chinooks and Chinook operations.
