Recorded interview with John Mitchell, who completed RAF national service as an airframe rigger. He was posted to 216 Squadron at Fayid in Egypt, where he worked on Valetta aircraft.
John Mitchell remembers his Second World War evacuation, national service call-up and basic training at RAF Hednesford. He then trained as an airframe mechanic at No.4 School of Technical Training, RAF St Athan. His first posting was to 216 Squadron at Fayid in Egypt. He describes life in Egypt, his work on Vickers Valetta aircraft and the requirement for guard duty. He also reflects on the value of national service.
