The Boeing 377 Stratocruiser was an airliner derived from the Boeing B-29 bomber. Only 56 were built, first entering service with Pan Am in 1949.

BOAC used its Stratocruisers on transatlantic routes to the United States and Canada. The type was considered luxurious but unreliable and expensive to operate. BOAC was forced to retain its aircraft because of failures of the De Havilland Comet aircraft which delayed its full entry into service. They were withdrawn from service in 1959, however, once the Comet 4 had entered service.
