Bristol 173 (G-ALBN), Filton 19 September 1952

The Bristol 173 was designed by Raoul Hafner and first flew on 3 January 1952, though this was restricted to hovering.

The Bristol 173 was designed as a civil transport helicopter. While it was being tested it attracted interest from the RAF, Royal Navy and Royal Canadian Navy. As a result, the design was refined and three versions developed, the Bristol 191 for the Royal Navy, the Bristol 192 for the RAF and the Bristol 193 for the Royal Canadian Navy.
