Al McLean was an RAF pilot in Nimrod aircraft with 206 Squadron. He describes facilities in the Nimrod and aspects of the aircraft’s role, including anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue and support to North Sea oil rigs. He comments on the role of an aircraft captain, the wider Cold War context and his later role as a university air squadron instructor. He later became a curator at the RAF Museum.
