Bristol 170 Freighter prototype (G-AGPV) in flight, 28 February 1946

The Bristol 170 prototype G-AGPV first flew on 2 December 1945. It was designed to fly freight over short distances.

The Bristol 170 was powered by two Bristol Hercules radial engines. Two versions were built, the Freighter and Wayfarer, the latter being designed for the carriage of passengers. A modified version of the Freighter was developed to carry cars and their passengers across the English Channel to France and the Channel Islands. It was also popular overseas with several exported to airlines and air forces around the world.
