Coloured flight deck surcoat worn by Chief Tech Peter Morgan who served as an armourer of No.1 Squadron on board HMS Invincible supporting operations over Kosovo and Iraq in 1998.

The flight deck of an aircraft carrier can be a very noisy place with much communication done visually. To aid communication it is essential to know who is who. Surcoats such as this, identify the technical trade of an individual, red being that of an armourer, green-electrical, yellow-aircraft marshalling and so on. Thus if a specialism is required the right person can be speedily identified. No.1 Squadron formed part of a mixed force operating alongside Royal Navy Sea Harriers during their deployment to the Mediterranean in 1998.
