Andrew Walters was an RAF pilot in Tornado GR1 and GR4 aircraft during the 1980s and 1990s, including the 1991 Gulf War and later operations over the Balkans and Iraq.
Andrew Walters was a pilot in Tornado GR1 aircraft and served in Germany with 16, 17 and 9 Squadrons. He outlines the Tornado’s Cold War role and describes preparations for the 1991 Gulf War. He remembers his experience of operations over Iraq, including losses, the use of JP233 and laser-guided bombs. He also describes later Tornado operations over the Balkans and Iraq and the transition from Tornado GR1 to GR4.
