Recorded interview with George Sledmere, who served as a gunner in Bomber Command during the Second World War. He describes various aspects of bombing operations against Germany and occupied Europe.
George Sledmere trained as an air gunner during the Second World War. He remembers minelaying off the Dutch coast and the loss of his Stirling crew of 90 Squadron, RAF Tuddenham, while he was in hospital. He describes his experience of fighters, anti-aircraft fire and searchlights, raids on the Ruhr Valley and V-1 and V-2 missile sites. He mentions work as an instructor and in the demobilisation of German soldiers.
