David Herriot served as a navigator in Buccaneer and Tornado GR.1 aircraft in the UK and Germany during the Cold War. He describes his experience of operations in both aircraft.
David Herriot trained as a navigator in Buccaneer aircraft. He describes the experience of flying in the Buccaneer and remembers ongoing training with 15 Squadron at RAF Laarbruch in Germany, including Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) and plans for war. He describes 12 Squadron’s anti-ship role at RAF Honington during his next tour, his work as an instructor, his return to Germany with 16 Squadron and conversion to the Tornado GR1.
