MBDA ASRAAM
MBDA Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM) is a within visual range air-to-air missile. The missile can accept target information from the aircraft's sensors or helmet mounted sight, it can also act autonomously.
Developed to replace the Sidewinder air-to-air missile, ASRAAM entered RAF service in 1998 and has been fitted to Tornado and Harrier and is now carried by Typhoon and the F-35 Lightning. It is a highly manoeuvrable air-to-air missile, with an infra-red seeker which can lock onto a target before or after launch. The missile has a range in excess of 25km and flies at over Mach 3.
