Norman Hurst completed national service with the RAF. He remembers being a clerk in the Transport Command Operations Room, training as a plotter at RAF Bawdsey and the Berlin Airlift.

Norman Hurst joined the RAF for his national service. He served as a clerk in the Transport Command Operations Room at RAF Bushey Park before moving to RAF Bawdsey for training as an operations room plotter. He describes his training, the nature of the work and its place in the wider air defence system. He gives detail on his involvement in the Berlin Airlift while at RAF Wunstorf in Germany.
