Ben Dixon was a wireless operator and air gunner in Hampden aircraft during the Second World War. While minelaying off the French coast he was shot down and taken prisoner.
Ben Dixon, in the RAF Museum’s Michael Beetham Conservation Centre (MBCC) outlines his training and explains his role as an RAF wireless operator and air gunner in Hampden aircraft. He remembers how he flew on a minelaying sortie in a Hampden off the coast of France, during which the aircraft was shot down and crashed on the beach. He describes his experience as a prisoner of war, including escape attempts.
