Recorded interview with Flight Lieutenant John Hall, 24 September 2019
Interview with John Hall, who flew Spitfire and Meteor aircraft in Egypt and Sudan during the early 1950s and worked as a civilian test pilot for the English Electric company.
John Hall describes his RAF pilot training and his experience of flying Spitfire XVIII aircraft with 208 Squadron on operations in Egypt and Sudan, including training for the reconnaissance, air-to-air and air-to-ground roles. He remembers conversion to Meteor FR.9 aircraft and the difference this made to the squadron’s operations. He comments on his return to the UK, his training as an instructor and later work as a civilian test pilot.
