Interview with Joe Randall, who served with 5022 Squadron of the RAF’s Airfield Construction Branch, working on advanced airfields during the battle for Normandy and the subsequent advance into Germany.
Joe Randall explains how he served in the Home Guard before joining E Flight, 5022 Squadron of the RAF’s Airfield Construction Branch. He remembers landing on Juno Beach during Operation Overlord, the construction of airfield B19 at Lingèvres and the dangers of working on advanced airfields in Normandy at this time. He recalls encounters with German soldiers and civilians, the end of the war and his return to the UK.
