British Forces Falkland Islands-information booklet, circa 1997
Since the end of the Falklands Conflict in 1982, Britian has maintained a permanent military presence. This included the building of a new airfield at RAF Mount Pleasant which opened in 1985.
Currently, the RAF permanently maintain four Eurofighter Typhoons, an Airbus A400M Atlas and an Airbus A330M Voyager at RAF Mount Pleasant which are supported by many ground trades. Deployments to the Falklands vary in length from six weeks to six months. This information booklet was issued to Cpl Martin Earrey, a survival equipment fitter, prior to his deployment to the Falklands in the late 1990s.
