Dave Waring was an RAF pilot in Whirlwind and Puma helicopters, serving in various locations. During the 1991 Gulf War he was an air liaison officer with the British Army.

Dave Waring flew Whirlwind helicopters with 103 Squadron from RAF Seletar in Singapore, operating in support of ground forces. After returning to the UK he flew Whirlwinds in the search and rescue role with 22 and 202 Squadrons. He was an instructor and flew Puma helicopters with 230 Squadron in Belize, Germany and Northern Ireland. He was an air liaison officer with the British Army during the 1991 Gulf War.
