Recorded interview with Squadron Leader Martin Withers, 22 June 2021
Martin Withers served as an RAF Vulcan pilot before and during the 1982 Falklands War. He gives an account of Operation Black Buck 1 and comments on Black Buck 7.
Martin Withers flew Vulcan bomber aircraft with 44 and 50 Squadrons. He was then a flying instructor in Jet Provost training aircraft before returning to the Vulcan. He describes the Vulcan’s role and performance and remembers preparation for the 1982 Falklands War. He gives an account of Operation Black Buck 1, and emphasises the importance of air-to-air refuelling. He comments on Operation Black Buck 7 and outlines his post-war career.
