Thomas Blackwood was a navigator in Buccaneer aircraft with the Fleet Air Arm at sea and the RAF in the UK and Germany. He later converted to Tornado GR1 aircraft.

Thomas Blackwood served as an RAF navigator in Buccaneer aircraft, including a tour with 809 Naval Air Squadron operating from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal. He flew Buccaneers with 15 Squadron from RAF Laarbruch, with 208 Squadron at RAF Honington and as an instructor on the operational conversion unit. He converted to the Tornado GR1 and flew with 14 Squadron from RAF Bruggen. He describes Cold War readiness exercises.
