Interview with Ernie Allen, who served as a pilot in Spitfire and Typhoon aircraft during the Second World War. He describes search and rescue operations and sweeps over occupied Europe.
Ernie Allen flew Hector and Audax aircraft as glider tugs and Spitfire aircraft with 277 Squadron. He describes search and rescue operations for downed aircrew over the English Channel. He flew Hawker Typhoon aircraft on low level sorties over occupied Europe and operated from airfields in France following the Allied landings in Normandy. He remembers the end of the war, flying Spitfires as gunnery training targets and leaving the RAF.
