Recorded interview with Corporal Brian Burgess, 10 December 2021
Brian Burgess joined the RAF Police in the 1960s. He served in the UK, Singapore and in Berlin, guarded nuclear weapons and provided cover for a civilian fire brigade strike.
Brian Burgess joined the RAF Police and after training was posted to RAF Scampton, where he guarded nuclear-armed Vulcan bomber aircraft. He remembers RAF Police work in Singapore, at RAF Coningsby and at RAF Gatow in Berlin, including visits to East Berlin. He served at RAF Wattisham and the Armament Support Unit at RAF Wittering, where he covered for civilian fire brigade strikes and was involved in nuclear weapon convoys.
