Murdo MacLeod served as an RAF pilot in Lightning, Phantom and Harrier aircraft, including ground attack operations from the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Hermes during the 1982 Falklands War.
Murdo MacLeod flew Phantom aircraft with 892 Naval Air Squadron from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal, Lightning aircraft with 23, 56 and 29 Squadrons and Harrier aircraft with 3 Squadron in Germany. He describes the long air-refuelled flight from Ascension Island to the aircraft carrier HMS Hermes and operations over the Falkland Islands during the 1982 conflict, including South Atlantic weather.
